Our Journey begins with the 1st step…
At 11:00 the Lookout Mountain/ Chattanooga Pilgrims gathered at Groome Transport to begin the journey to Cairo. Out of an abundance of caution, we left Chattanooga early since one never knows what Atlanta traffic and Hartsfield Airport will be like. The trip to Atlanta was quick and uneventful. Upon arrival at Hartsfield, we immediately were able to check our baggage. No lines! We then walked to security.
Unlike any other time I have been in Atlanta since 9/11, there was not a crowded tense group of travelers lined up, anxiously waiting to empty their pockets and take off their shoes. Only a handful of folks were there and we eased through the checkpoints in a leisurely manner.
What has taken hours in the past was accomplished in less than twenty minutes. Moreover, our concourse wasn’t four stops away on the moving train. No, it was right where we checked in. We felt like Moses and Israelites crossing the Red Sea. There we were, at our gate, the nasty TSA agents were behind us.
Now we only had to wait. And wait, we did. All of us have become accustomed to giving ourselves lots of time when traveling because of the security issues. Invariably, there are problems and you are glad you gave yourself extra time. When there are no problems, all of a sudden you have four hours to spend in the Atlanta airport. Better to have time to relax, read and visit than to be rushed. Before long, we will be in Cairo…
